Orange Bicycle Home/Khooneh: A Cozy Family Escape with Soul

Because "home" is a feeling—and sometimes, it's tucked just off a forest road in Tobermory.

Bright living room with a sofa, rug, fireplace, TV, and large sunlit window.

Not far from the quiet charm of Orange Bicycle Guesthouse sits Orange Bicycle Home—our three-bedroom retreat designed for small families and intimate groups who crave comfort, connection, and a place to truly unplug together.

It's not flashy. It's not fussy. It's just right.

And while we lovingly call it a "Home," its name carries something deeper.

๐Ÿก What "Khooneh" Really Means
In Farsi, Khooneh (ุฎุงู†ู‡) means home—not just a house, but a refuge.
A place where slippers come off, tea is poured without asking, and kids play with pinecones like they're treasure.
This home was created with that spirit in mind: cozy, serene, a bit soul-soothing. The kind of place where memories are made without the need for Wi-Fi (though yes, we do have it... just in case Grandma needs to FaceTime).

๐Ÿงก Perfect for...
Couples seeking a quiet, independent getaway

  • Families with children who love trees more than screens
  • Small friend groups ready to swap city pace for cottage board games and stargazing
  • Creative souls looking to write, rest, or just be somewhere quiet enough to hear themselves think

๐Ÿ› What You'll Find Inside

  • 3 thoughtfully furnished bedrooms (sleeps 6 max)
  • A full kitchen for pancake mornings and pasta nights
  • Cozy living area with books, blankets, and that "we're not rushing anywhere" feeling
  • Private deck and fire pit (bring marshmallows, we'll provide the starlight)
  • A gentle walk or quick drive to Bruce Peninsula trails, or lake Huron and the magic of Tobermory town

Bonus: a selection of board games, and nature activity ideas for families who forgot how fun boredom can be.

๐ŸŽฎ The Garage Game Zone: Where the Fun (Quietly) Lives
At Khooneh, even the garage has soul—and a healthy dose of friendly competition.

We've transformed it into a
two-part game zone that's perfect for rainy days, after-dinner showdowns, or unplugged family afternoons:

In the main garage area, you'll find:

A foosball table (test your reflexes and sibling diplomacy)

  • A new to us air hockey table (fast, fun, and surprisingly addictive)

And tucked into the back room of the garage:

  • A classic ping pong table—ready for doubles tournaments or casual volleys with tea breaks in between

It's not fancy but it's certainly colorful and it's filled with just enough low-key fun to turn an ordinary afternoon into one of those "remember when we..." kind of memories. Plus, it's separate from the main home, so grown-ups can retreat to the deck or firepit while the games go on. Win-win.

๐ŸŒฒ A Sample Family Itinerary at Khooneh

Morning:

  • Make French toast together and eat outside (no devices at the table—just birds)
  • Head to Singing Sands or Dunks Bay for a morning swim

Afternoon:

  • Return for lunch and a collective nap (trust us, it works)
  • Try a DIY art session using leaves and stones from your walk

Evening:

  • Grill dinner, light the propane firepit, tell family stories or make some up
  • Stargaze. Marvel. Repeat.

Optional:
sneak in a glass of wine while the kids roast one last marshmallow.

๐Ÿ”Œ Independent, but Never Isolated
Staying at Khooneh means more freedom, more flexibility, and a slightly messier kitchen table—but it's also an extension of the Orange Bicycle spirit: design with soul, comfort with purpose, and an invitation to travel a little more mindfully.

While the Guesthouse leans quiet, curated, and adult-focused,
Khooneh opens its arms to joyful noise and lots of laughter. It's the perfect balance.

The Orange Bicycle has been a part of our family for the last 20 years. Although it was not an Orange Bicycle to start with. My name is Neda and this is my story.
